Product Design at Trelleborg Sealing Solutions.
We divide Engineered Molded Parts into certain product categories.
Besides these typical design criteria and related application know-how, we also record suitable manufacturing capabilities and methods and how to achieve an optimized price-performance ratio. All in all, this categorization enables us to focus on the fast and secure development of Engineered Molded Parts with a long life-cycle.

Rubber Bellow Seal
Rubber BellowSeals are used in applications to seal out dust and environmental elements in applications with a motion or stroke.
Diaphragm Seal
A Diaphragm Seal is a flexible membrane that seals and isolates an enclosure. The flexible nature of this seal allows pressure effects to cross the barrier but not the material being contained.
As elastomers are limited to low pressure applications, sometimes it might be necessary to use fabric reinforced materials to achieve a long lifetime.
Flat Seal
Flat Seals in rubber are typically punched products to seal static applications where there is no movement between sealing surfaces, e.g. flanges.
Frame Seal
A Frame Seal is a static seal between two housings.
Grommets
Grommets are used to seal electrical cables against plug-in terminal blocks, for example, in cars.
Special Piston Seal
Special Piston Seals are used in cylinders for fluid sealing. They are internal to the cylinder head and seal against the cylinder bore, preventing fluid from flowing across the cylinder head. This allows pressure build up on one side of the piston, making the cylinder extend or retract.
Protective Elements
Protective Elementsmade from rubber are used to seal out dust and environmental elements in static applications.
Special Rod Seals
SpecialRod Sealsare usually used in cylinders for fluid sealing. They are external to the cylinder head and seal against the cylinder’s rod, preventing leakage of fluid from within the cylinder to the outside.
Special Rotary Seals
SpecialRotary Seals are used in components with oscillating or rotating parts to keep lubrication fluids in while preventing ingress of mud and water.
Rubber-to-Metal Bonded Seals
Rubber-to-MetalBonded Seals comprise a metal component and an elastomeric seal bonded inside the metal part. The metal part prevents over-compression and limits deformation of the elastomeric seal while the elastomer prevents leakage.
Rubber-to-Plastic Bonded Seals
Rubber-to-Plastic Bonded Sealscomprise a plastic component and an elastomeric seal bonded together. The plastic part prevents over-compression and limits deformation of the elastomeric seal while the elastomer prevents leakage.
Safety Element
A Safety Elementis defined by its safety-critical function and is frequently found in life sciences, aerospace or gas applications.
Special Scrapers
Special Scrapers or Wipers are installed in the sealing configurations of cylinders to scrape dirt, foreign particles or moisture from the piston rods as they retract into the system. A scraper prevents contamination of the media that could damage wear rings, seals and other components.
Sealing Ring
A Sealing Ring has a rotationally symmetric profile and functions mainly as a static sealing element.
Rubber Valve Seals
Rubber Valve Seals (YD) allow fluid, either a liquid or a gas, to flow through it in one or two directions.
Vibration Damper
A Vibration Damperprevents unwanted mechanical vibrations which can have a negative impact on the proper functioning of machines and apparatus.

Introduction to Engineered Molded Parts.
High efficiency or condensing boilers have a heat exchanger that uses heat in the flue gases to pre-heat water. For this heat exchanger, several sealing solutions are requested - an application with lots of challenging requirements.
Do you think standard seals can be used here? No, because of the geometry, standard seals cannot be used.
In this case, "Engineered Molded Parts” are needed. They can be defined as parts with an individual geometry, designed for a specific application. Engineered Molded Parts by Trelleborg Sealing Solutions offer several advantages, for example, they can be adapted to difficult design windows.
There are 8 factors that are relevant to the design and production of Engineered Molded Parts: Relationship, Price, Design Competence, Material Competence, Supply Chain Management and Delivery Time, the Quality of Parts and Processes, Added Technical Value, and Manufacturing Know-How.
How important do you think these factors are? Please rate their importance by marking the respective value.
