TRELLEBORG SEALING SOLUTIONS IS CONTINUALLY WORKING TO ENHANCE THE DESIGN and performance of their wear rings. Slydring®, Trelleborg's proprietary line of wear rings guide pistons within hydraulic cylinders, absorb transverse forces and prevent metal-to-metal contact between stationary and moving components.

Today’s modern materials, such as HiMod® HM803, offer several advantages over traditional metallic guide rings. HiMod® HM803 is a proprietary glass-filled Nylon material with special fibers that improve bearing characteristics and deliver proven performance.

The new HiMod® Slydring® HC (Inch Version) is the latest offering within the HiMod® range. It offers extensive operational benefits at an excellent price-to-performance ratio for multiple applications, such as industrial machinery, off-highway construction equipment and agricultural equipment.

SLYDRING® IN GENERAL
The function of Slydring® is to guide the piston and piston rod of a hydraulic cylinder to absorb the transverse forces during operation. At the same time, metallic contact between the sliding parts of the cylinder (e.g. piston and cylinder barrel or rod and cylinder head) must be prevented. Non-metallic guide rings offer major benefits compared with the traditional metallic guides:

  • Cost-efficient production
  • High load bearing capacity

  • Eliminates local stress concentrations
  • Wear-resistant, long service lives
  • Metal/plastic pairing eliminates fretting and seizure
  • Favorable friction behavior
  • Damping of mechanical vibrations
  • Good wiping effect, embedding of foreign particles possible
  • Protecting the seal against ‘dieseling’
  • Eliminates hydrodynamic pressure problems in the guide system
  • Simple closed groove, easy installation

HiMod® Slydring® HC has several advantages for uses in a variety of operational conditions. They have high compressive strength and wear resistance even at elevated temperatures, give low friction performance in lubricated settings, and are easy to install with their simple closed grooved design. The rings also eliminate local stress concentrations, fretting and seizure, while damping mechanical vibrations, protecting against dieseling and reducing hydrodynamic pressure problems.

The material choice of Slydring® is vital to its effective performance. “We manufacture Slydring® in many proprietary material grades, including Turcite® and Orkot®, but for medium- to heavy-duty applications, HiMod® is crucial. HiMod® HM803 offers excellent performance in key operating parameters and is great value for the money,” says Tom.

HIMOD® HIGH MODULUS PLASTIC MATERIALS

HiMod® refers to a range of high-modulus plastic materials that Trelleborg Sealing Solutions developed for applications demanding high wear and chemical resistance performance. These materials also exhibit low friction performance created by a unique balance of internal lubricants and wear inhibiting agents. The materials can be machined or injection molded, providing engineers the design freedom to develop the most economical manufacturing method.
