Airtight Platform Seal

In monopile structures with flanged connections, an airtight deck or lower airtight platform is used to close and separate the transition piece and tower from the highly corrosive sea environment below. The type of seal applied is a self-activating compression seal. The seal is mounted to the bottom side of the airtight platform using Trelleborg sealant and it is activated by the weight of the platform. If the weight is insufficient, clamps may be used to ensure the required compression of the seal. The seal design compensates for the large fabrication tolerance, particularly waviness, of the airtight platform and the landing ring inside the monopile.
