Overview
In monopile constructions, the flanged connection may be applied between the monopile and the transition piece. The choice may be made to keep the gap between the skirt of the transition piece and the monopile wall open and unfilled. In this case, seals are used to prevent the flow of seawater to the internal of the foundation. By sealing the gap, the bolts in the flanges are protected from corrosion due to external seawater ingress.
