Sealing Solutions for Vertical Mixers
Vertical mixers range in size from home countertop appliances to massive 80-quart devices for large-scale baked goods. Their function is to coat, mix, and homogenize bulk materials, and they are suitable for products of any viscosity, from liquids and whipped cream to doughs and mashed potatoes.
Seals are critical to ensure the efficient operation of the mixer. They protect the motor and gearbox from contamination and must perform under different speeds and pressures to effectively mix food materials. Durability and reliability are key to limiting downtime and extending mixer service life.

Rotary Seal
Rotary seals are positioned between two machine parts that rotate relative to each other. In vertical mixers, they seal along the beater shaft or motor spindle. Facing the motor or gearbox, rotary seals keep lubrication in and contamination out, and separate dissimilar media.
- Featuring a dust lip, radial oil seals are available in a wide range of FoodPro® materials
- Turcon® Roto Variseal® and Turcon® Varilip® PDR are suitable for challenging operating environments with higher temperatures, speeds and pressures
O-Ring
O-Rings are standard static components, typically made of rubber or other flexible materials that seal lids, flange joints, threads, and covers. They provide an effective and reliable sealing solution between two mating surfaces or components. In a vertical mixer, they keep internal lubrication from leaking to the food contact area while preventing any food materials like flour and other potential airborne particles from contaminating the system.
When unique parts are needed, engineered molded elastomeric parts are designed and customized according to the equipment's dimensions and tolerances, balancing a perfect fit and ease of installation.
